The Grant County Substance Abuse Task Force consists of 125 people and 30 agencies, all of whom are very busy trying to make a difference on the substance abuse front. Positive changes have occurred in Grant County including a partnership between Grant-Blackford Mental Health, Inc. (GBMH), the Grant County Jail and MGH. This program initiates substance treatment and counseling with inmates while they are incarcerated to prevent relapse when they are released into the community. Marion Community Schools has taken on a student liaison to attend juvenile court with students in hopes of identifying issues that may be revolving around or eventually lead to substance abuse. James Luttrell, Grant County Prosecutor, gave a detailed explanation of the Family Recovery Court to address the common problem of multi-generational substance abuse and the ripple effect that can engulf the entire family. Also, Judge Dana Kenworthy was recently recognized by the state for her team’s work in this area in creating a national model.

Mississinewa Audubon Club was founded in 1956 in Grant County, Indiana. Mississinewa Audubon Club meet monthly with a speaker knowledgeable about Nature/Birds/Wildlife/Conservation to name a few topics. MAC club provides monthly guided hikes throughout Matter Park, we provide education to local groups/clubs/schools as speakers. We take part in community events such as Evening in the Gardens, Magic in the Meadows, Garden House educational series, and others. Mississinewa Audubon Club also promotes monthly field trips to different areas throughout the state of Indiana for members and nonmembers. The objectives of this organization shall be to promote the study of wildlife and to undertake appropriate conservation activities.

Community leaders, educators and health care providers gather together monthly to discuss how to benefit the young children of Grant County.We meet the first Thursday of every month from 12:00-1:30 in the basement meeting room of the Marion Public Library. Managed via the Grant County United Way offices, the Coalition envisions school readiness through a focus on family involvement, community collaboration, and educational engagement.

Focus on literacy but also has online sources for job skills preparedness; Volunteers for various types of child to adult learning, including GED, Citizenship classes, resources for faimily reading and learning, as well as early childhood development.
